EGPZ Word List - h

Draft sample list of words from the EGPZ Word List, those starting with h in transliteration. Please remember this is a draft - elements are missing (such as some hieroglyphs and English translations) and there remains editorial work and checking to be done.

Temporarily, the list is divided into two sections.

  • (List I) is derived from the Vygus list (based on Faulkner's Dictionary of Middle Egyptian - DME), with editorial changes and MdC layout codes.
  • (List II) is derived from the Beinlich list (largely based on Wörterbuch der Ägyptischen Sprache - Wb), with editiorial changes, addition of English translations, and hieroglyph codings.

These will be merged and reorganised in a future revision.

Note: The first column contains Egyptian transliteration characters Alef and Ayin introduced in Unicode 5.1 with examples of Yod as 'i' and 'j'. The second column uses EGPZ 1.0 characters for hieroglyphs (these are written in a linear way, not the usual clusters). To view these items correctly you must have specialist fonts installed. Currently, only the 'InScribe 2008 Hieroglyphs' font is supported (available as part of the InScribe 2008 Beta program, see www.saqqara.org). Other transliteration and EGPZ font support will be added as and when further compatible fonts are released. If you have a font installed, list entries below will look something like this:

Tip: You can copy and paste the MdC transcriptions into most current hieroglyph editors that support MdC.

Tip: You can copy and paste Unicode hieroglyphs (or transliterations) into your word processor and other software. Copying Unicode into hieroglyph editors will only be feasible when the new generation of editors that know how to consume Unicode hieroglyphs become available (see Egyptological tools).
